About: |
| |
Milonga along with
Vals and Tango make up the triad of music and dance
forms of Argentine Tango. Set to a lively 2/4 tempo
music, milonga uses the same basic elements as tango, though the
movement is more accented and upbeat. It is rather a kind of
rhythmic walking without the complicated figures of tango. |
| • |
Notes: |
| |
This series is FREE for
Caltech students. NO dance experience or partner necessary. Milonga is danced in close position with
figures that require a lot of pivoting on the balls of your feet. As
such, it is ideal for beginners to wear close-toed shoes with smooth
bottoms -- suede or leather is ideal, hard rubber is ok. Most ladies
wear heels -- if you do so, make sure to choose a pair with straps
so that the heel is NOT loose, this will aid in your pivots. |

introducing
embellishments and variations.
We will concentrate heavily on technique and proper execution for
each element, rather than focusing on steps (the steps are a tool to
teach people to better
understand the mechanics of the dance, so they can gain more
confidence more quickly). Then at the end we will work on combinations and sequences with these elements. |

Advance Milonga Rhythms: Traspie & Sincopada |
| |
For
intermediate level dancers wishing to understand and explore
the different rhythms of Milonga. |
|
|
| |
|
|
| • |
Description: |
| |
We will
work on intermediate and advance concepts of the Milonga steps and
movements. We will start with the Milonga sincopada, and apply that
to the tango dance. The musicality combination of the -1-2 and 3
rhythms- and apply this concept to the differents steps. Then we are
going to work in Milonga with traspie.
The definition of traspie, and
the combination of the traspie and milonga sincopada. The definition
of "counterpoint in the milonga!" The milonga, as a song replaces
the cifra in the payadores - called "counterpoint." Definition from
composer Enrique Delfino, champion of the New tango focus, and how
he breaks the classic musical structure -- on 3 parts of 16 bars
each = callet trio and create the recipe 1er 2nd 1er bis and 2nd to
the end = called milonguita -- and apply all these new concepts of
that time in the dance.
Time permitting, we will try to
have a brief introduction of Fraseo. |
