TANGO MUSICAL DYNAMICS in DANCE MOVEMENTS
Learning to become an active listener at the milongas: Ear
training for rhythm, phrasing, form & texture.
To help students better understand musical dynamics, Julian will
be playing the bandoneon and a guest student will be playing the
flute during the workshop. By exploring a simple dance sequence
using a particular rhythm and having the class participate in
the arrangement, they will find more ways to be expressive with
their dance by understanding the rhythm, phrase, form and
texture of tango music. |

Biography:
Julian Miller Ramil has developed a reputation as an outstanding
performer and teacher which has earned him numerous engagements
throughout the country. Along with Claudia Lissette, he has produced
commercials for companies such as HEWLETT PACKARD and SUN
MICROSYSTEMS and television productions such as: LATIN EYES in the
Bay Area and ISLAND BEAT in the Hawaiian Islands. As teachers, they
are very active in the Bay Area tango community, teaching daily and
hosting milongas and other types of tango events and activities.
They also frequently travel conducting workshops in the U.S. and
outside including Mexico, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taipei, Hawaii and
the Philippines....
Julian and Claudia have developed a teaching method that emphasizes
the biomechanics of leading and following with proper posture,
balance and musicality---the foundation of every style. This allows
their students to be versatile and open-minded to the variety of
tango styles so that, in the end, they too may develop their own
mode of dancing. The philosophy of their teaching is to guide the
students to clearly see the basics within the complicated patterns
of the Argentine Tango, making their progress and the dance itself
easy and exciting. In music, Julian started his formal training in
2001 and earned a BM in classical guitar performance in 2004.
Shortly after, he and a few friends formed the San Francisco Tango
Orchestra where he played 3rd part bandoneon. |

MORE
ABOUT ROBIN A well-known and respected dancer and DJ,
Robin's enthusiasm for tango can be seen most clearly in his
wholehearted dedication to teaching. He believes that it is very
important for students to dance simply and musically from the very
beginning. Building that strong base of connection and musicality
early, Robin believes, will allow even very new beginners to feel
comfortable and confident on a crowded dance floor and will also
lead to a more comprehensive and fluid understanding of more
complicated techniques later on. Robins teaching style reflects this
philosophy, and his students appreciate the humorous and
down-to-earth way he presents the material. On the rare occasion
that he is neither teaching nor DJing, Robin can always be seen on
the dance floor, either working to expand his own understanding of
tango, or simply enjoying the connection he works so hard to share
with others. He is originally from Belfast, Ireland and now lives in
New York City.
